At PARTREC, we offer state-of-the-art facilities
Designed to support a wide range of experimental research and testing. Our advanced infrastructure ensures precision, reliability, and versatility in proton and heavy-ion beam irradiation.
AGOR cyclotron
In Air Irradiation
For protons, we use our “standard” in-air beam line. To test the sensitivity of electronics to single even upsets (SEUs) such as changes of the memory of a computer due to radiation, one needs to irradiate the equipment with heavy ion because they create a large amount charge in the device (high linear energy transfer). To perform heavy ions irradiations, we have changed the set-up in such way that the device under test (DUT) can be placed very close to the vacuum exit window of the beam pipe. This allows irradiations with heavy ions of electronics in air, which simplifies the setup tremendously and allows easy access to the DUT.

Field Shaping System for Precision Irradiation
We offer multiple methods to shape an irradiation field tailored to your experimental needs.
Passive Methods: Techniques such as single or double scatter foils are ideal for light ions and smaller field sizes. These methods allow for simultaneous irradiation of the entire field, ensuring uniform exposure.
Active Field Shaping: For more precise control, we use an xy-scan magnet to actively scan the beam across the field. While active scanning increases efficiency and supports higher dose rates, it introduces time-dependent field coverage. Various scanning strategies are available, including continuous scanning and spot scanning.
For light-ion beams, we can achieve field sizes up to 100x100 mm. For heavy-ion beams, the maximum field size is 30x30 mm. Field collimators are also available to shape the field to match your sample's specifications.
Before each experiment, field homogeneity is verified using a LaneX™ scintillation foil and CCD camera system, ensuring optimal precision.
Fluence Monitoring & Measurement
We ensure precise fluence monitoring and measurement for all heavy-ion experiments.
Heavy-Ion Beam Flux Monitoring: Fast scintillation detectors (YAP
crystals paired with Hamamatsu R12321 photomultipliers) are positioned at the field edges to monitor beam flux. The total fluence is calculated based on the ions detected in these sensors. The ratio between the total fluence and the center-field fluence is established using a scintillation detector with a pre-determined surface area, calibrated at the start of each experiment.
Radiobiological Dose Measurement: For radiobiological experiments, the dose is calculated according to the IAEA TRS 398 protocol. We utilize several calibrated ionization chambers to ensure accuracy and compliance with international standards.
Degrader system
Our remote-controlled degrader systems allow precise variation of beam energy at the sample position. Whether you're working with light or heavy ions, we provide dedicated degraders to cover the full energy range of the initial beam, ensuring flexibility and accuracy for your experiments.
We provide beam time tailored for your business.
